With stars like Om Puri, Mithum Chakraborty, Sohum, Urvashi Sharma and Sushant Singh, a poor storyline and weak direction leaves ‘Baabarr’ nothing short of a shabby flick that offers a gruesome tale of bloodshed and crime.
The movie is based on the life of a dreaded criminal Baabarr (Sohum) who does a la ‘Satya’, however, unlike the celebrated Bhiku Matre of ‘Satya’, Baabarr’s gory antics hardly evoke any sympathy from the audience.

Basically, ‘Baabarr’ is the story of an anti-hero and his mercurial rise to fame and his eventual fall in the merciless underworld where in the battle of good and evil, SP Dwivedi (Mithun Chakraborty) is pitted against Baabarr. However, with Baabarr aided by devious politicians and a corrupt cop Chaturwedi (Om Puri), Dwivedi`s task becomes extremely difficult.

In the movie, Baabarr is a hot-headed ruthless killer whose wild temper lands him into big trouble. Yet, when the cold-blooded killing machine is not busy shelling blood, our bad guy can be seen canoodling his mistress (Urvashi Sharma) and double-timing his wife.

‘Baabarr’ showcases Mithun as an encounter specialist with Om Puri bringing in the shades of gray with his shrewd cop act. In the flick, Sushant Singh plays Baabarr`s arch nemesis, yet, with a limited character sketch, the actor hardly gets the chance to reveal his acting prowess.

Well, talking about Sohum, the actor seems to be in a dire need of some serious acting lessons as he miserably falters every time when he mouths emotional scenes. It seems ‘Baabarr’ takes unusual pleasure in glorifying the foibles of the lead actor as the movie emphasizes a lot on his killing spree!

In comparison to ‘Satya’, ‘Baabarr’ is a story of an unapologetic ruthless gangster who is knows no compassion. With an average plot and pedestrian direction and background score, the film falls flat at Box Office

Ratings: One cheer for this one!
