New Delhi: John Abraham-Katrina Kaif starrer `New York` will be the opening film for the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) this year, which will honour new age directors of Indian cinema.

Produced by Yash Raj banner, the film has been selected for the "in competition" section at the 10-day-long festival, which begins from November 10.

Kabir Khan, the director of the film, has been invited to attend the opening night, said a statement from the production house.

`New York`, which also stars actors Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan, received a good response from the audience after its release in June this year

The film is a contemporary story of three young friends whose lives turned upside down by the 9/11 terror attacks in the US.

One of the oldest film festival in the Middle East, the CIFF will acknowledge the new generation of film-makers by honoring Indian cinema this year.

The festival will be attended by international stars like Salma Hayek, Samuel L Jackson, Lucy Liu and Tom Berenger, who is also a member of the international jury.
