Spicezee Bureau Mumbai: Remember those Christmas vacations where you would sneak into a quilt in a chilly winter night while relishing Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol!’ Well, it’s not exactly Christmas time but the celebration has just began with the release of Robert Zemeckis’ 3-D animation flick -‘A Christmas Carol.’
The Oscar winning director seems to be carrying the legacy of his earlier flicks ‘The Polar Express’ and ‘Beowulf’ as Zemeckis has once again dished out a perfect holiday movie for kids. A Walt Disney release, ‘A Christmas Carol’ boasts of a stellar star cast that includes Jim Carrey, Robin Wright Penn, Cary Elwes, Gary Oldman, Bob Hoskins, Steve Valentine, Julian Holloway, Daryl Sabara, Ryan Ochoa and Jacquie Barnbrook to name a few.
‘A Christmas Carol’ is a breezy flick in a 3-D adaptation of Charles Dickens’s 1838 classic. The movie opens with Jim Carrey playing the celebrated old miser Ebeneezer Scrooge, a stasher who loathes spending every single penny, especially on Christmas eve. Seven years after the death of his business partner Jacob Marley, the ghost of Marley pays visit to Scrooge and chides him for his parsimoniousness. The visit of Marley is accompanied by the visit of three spirits (also portrayed by Carrey) who warn Scrooge of his wrongdoings and show him a sneak peak into his future in case he does not mend his stingy ways.
Undoubtedly, ‘A Christmas Carol’ is out-and-out a Jim Carrey movie where the maverick actor plays the role of Scrooge as well as The Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future with effortless ease. Robert Wright Penn portrays the role of Scrooge’s ex-love Belle, however, the 3-D version leaves the seasoned actress almost unrecognizable.
It has been a long time ever since Hollywood studios came up with a classic adaptation of Dickens novel. ‘A Christmas Carol’ is a worth a dekko!
Ratings: Three cheers for this one.
