Watch: Dean Elgar's 'Superman' catch ends Tim Paine's brave innings in style

Dean Elgar stole the show early in the second session of day three of the fourth and final Test between South Africa and Australia at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Sunday. 

In their reply to South Africa's 488, the Aussies began the post-lunch session at 201/7 and in the blink of an eye lost Nathan Lyon and debutant Chadd Sayers. And the situation led to stand-in captain Tim Paine -- following the ban on Steve Smith alongside David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for their roles in ball-tampering -- hitting top gear.

Paine had bravely batted until then battling a stress fracture on his thumb.  First, he launched spinner Keshav Maharaj into the stands with a six and then took a four off Kagiso Rabada in the next over. 

However, off the last ball of the Rabada over, Paine tried to clear the midwicket region but miscued it and the ball went high up in the air. Even though Elgar was fielding at mid-off, at first it appeared he won't be able to reach the ball. 

However, to everyone's disbelief he ran back some 10 yards keeping his eyes all the time on the ball and then dove to his right - full-length - to complete a fabulous catch as the Australian innings could only go as far as 221 all out. Watch the video here.

Earlier on Saturday, the Proteas had been able to reach 488, thanks to Temba Bavuma's 95 not.  "I had to exercise a lot of discipline. In my first-class career, that was how I was able to achieve my success, with discipline. Setting a goal and understanding what you are meant to do, and staying with that. I've been in situations like that before - it was similar in England at the Oval, where the ball was moving around and you had to stay out there, keep calm and understand there will be a point where you can score runs. Then you need to be in the right mental state to dominate. That's what I tried to do today and thankfully it came off," he said after his innings.
