India Couture Week: Day 2
Day 2
Spicezee Bureau
Now that the previously six-day fashion week has been cut down to a five-day affair, doing the honours were jewellery designers Farah Ali Khan, Maheep Kapoor, Devaunshi Mehta and Queenie.
Maheep said, “I’ll showcase an heirloom collection, royal and extraordinary.” Each of Maheep's haute couture pieces are priced no less than Rs one crore.
Farah showcased cascaded handcrafted jewellery and Devaunshi played up Indian inspiration with traditional designs. Unveiling new necklines, this collection is an ode to the varied moods of femininity - from innocence to sexy. Rich tones such as Emralds greens, pinks, Tanzanite blues and yellow diamonds come together to form a vibrant colour palette. The designer has also beautifully merged the old with the new - the traditional Indian jadau with the diamonds set in 18 karat gold in her collection.
Queenie, who closely follows fashion, said, “It’s a brilliant concept to showcase jewellery with couture.”
An amalgamation of fine jewellery with high fashion, this show was glamorised by Bollywood stars and guests. Sridevi walked the ramp for Queenie while Genelia for Farah.
Devaunshi's collection comprised of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and cuffs - all set in white gold and designed to wear in the day and stunners at night promise to be an unique treat. The piece de resistance was an 18 karat white gold handbag embellished using 64.75 carats of the best quality diamonds.
Graced at the front row were Dimple Kapadia, Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan, Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan, Malaika Arora-Khan, Zarine and Sanjay Khan, and Sunil Sethi, President of FDCI.
Geared to present a fabulous celebration of couture till October 16, Sunny Dewan Wadhawan, MD, HDIL, told a news daily, “We are proud to present this grand event for the second year in succession. This platform was envisioned and created to celebrate India’s fashion heritage by showcasing the country’s leading couture designers. Our association with Fashion Design Council of India makes this a landmark event.”
