Mumbai: On the fourth day at the ongoing HDIL Couture Week here, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor could be seen sashaying down the ramp along with beau Saif Ali Khan, for her designer friend Manish Malhotra. Kareena, who looked stunning in ace designer Manish’s bridal collection, says it was a very special show for her. "I have walked the ramp so many times in the past for my friend Manish, but this was different and very special because for the first time I was walking with Saif. It's always a special feeling to be with him," Kareena told reporters after the show.
"Yeah, it was a lot of fun. We had fun during rehearsals as well," added Saif.
Manish’s collection was called ‘Destination Wedding’ and the set at the fashion extravaganza was decorated with white drapes falling from the rooftop, which looked like a dream sequence of a Bollywood flick.
The front row was occupied by an array of Bollywood celebrities who had to squeeze in to get a place in the jam-packed show area. Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Kajol, Imran Khan, Dino Morea, Uday Chopra, Sophie Chaudhary, and Boney Kapoor and Sridevi who came with their daughters, added to the glamour quotient.
On the other hand, designer Varun Bahl, who managed to pull off an incredible show, even without having any Bollywood star walking the ramp for him. "I will never have any Bollywood celebrity walking the ramp for me. They take audiences attention away from your clothes. I would like my work to speak for me," Bahl told reporters after his show.
The audience was not disappointed. "The clothes were fabulous. That is something you call real couture," said actress Neha Dhupia, who was there to support her designer friend.
Bahl`s collection was inspired by Japanese designs and he did a fabulous job as he teamed up lehengas with kimonos, saris with a kimono blouse and made other Indo-Japanese combinations. His creations were in vibrant jewel tones like fuchsia, ivory, gold, indigo and burgundy in free flowing fabrics as well as in velvet. "The collection is a blend of Indo-Japanese influences. It is all about Indian bridal wears meeting Japanese traditional clothes," he said.
