Lakme India Fasion Week` 09- Day 3

Nabila Habib

This day was for the man of today. The formal and the casual were seamlessly blended to produce the best in wearable and comfortable collection. The modern man seems to have broken the boundary of masculine colours to venture into lighter, summery pastel shades this season. Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter Sonakshi Sinha walked the ramp for Dev R Nil. She was the only female on the ramp, bridging the gap between the genders in a glamorous move.Digvijay Singh came up with ‘Morning Mandi’ collection at Lakme Fashion Week. The high quality cotton ensembles were tailored with finesse for that perfect fit. The show started with innovative kurtas with drawstrings at the waist and bundis teamed with churidars gathered at knees instead of the ankles. The colours were basic, with contrasts created by pipings on jackets and patched trousers. The Rajasthani blended well with formals in all his creations.

Troy Costa’s show was an outstanding statement of elegance. The models walked the ramp in muted formal colours, nevertheless standing out with complementary combination of shades going together. The shirts and trousers spoke of high street fashion, with the fabric and the pattern complementing each other wonderfully.

Dev R Nil’s show ruled by his novel experiments with the jacket. Chequered patterns brought to mind an inventive rebirth of chessboard. A black suit teamed with a black silk tie and solid black shirt stood apart. The pin-striped material had grey tonal shades as the base that won over all the rest.

Narendra Kumar came up with a unique idea that made his designs get imprinted in the mind. The models strutted with their mouth and head wrapped in bandage stroked boldly with earthy colours. This invariably shifted the attention to the dresses instead of the models, and they did win over the viewers. The trousers and shirts were signature Narendra creations in solid colours. There was a flamboyant dash of colour with a saffron tee and green Capri, but the rest was muted use of somber colours. Pockets were highlighted, and this detailing added a modish touch to the ensembles.

Lecoanet Hemant took full artistic liberty with colours, and we had a wonderful combination of the east and the west, with a timeless international feel to the wear. Pastels ruled the show, and there were shorts, trousers, shirts, jackets and even shoes in summery pastel shades of baby pink, grass green and cream. Bags were cross-strapped in the name of accessories.
