Spicezee Bureau

Aashii, the creation of Ashima Singh had an urban, chic and contemporary look. The cuts were caftans, wide legged pants, short shift dresses and maxi dresses. The outfits had a practical, wearable feel to them. The colours that set the mood were shell beige, moss green, angel pink, pistachio greens and whites. Singh experimented freely with nets, chiffons and georgettes, and gave a sensuous feel to the dresses.Urvashi Kaur showed the creativity that can go into the different shades of white and a single idea of greek-gown! The designs were classic, and elegant. She had used fine, free flowing fabrics like georgettes, voiles, and also jerseys. The theme indicated a fusion of contemporary with a timeless, classy look. The creation had novel combinations like dhoti skirts with knitted or angarkha tops, and also pleated jersey bottoms.

Rina Dhaka’s show was a major attraction. She came out with bright but understated colours, and gave a breathy aura with free flowing dresses ruling the show. Her show had Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath in the first row, nodding approval at the end.

''In the last few seasons, I worked with dark colours and concentrated on surface ornamentation. But this time I chose bright colours for the summer,” Dhaka told Spicezee.com.

Her creation mostly contained western wear dominated by tunics with a rustic, ordinary look. About it she said, “My collection came out of the works of the traditional weavers of Bhuj in Gujarat from where I have collected works over the last 20 years. I combined them with modernism and used stretch georgette and cotton silk called the malya muslin. I also made extensive use of chiffon and satin fabrics. I stayed way from yellow this time because I thought it won't go with me.”

Also spotted at the do was Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar whose latest fil ‘Fashion’ is all about, well, fashion. Designers Ritu Kumar, JJ Valaya (he told us his line is going to be ‘simple and straight-forward this time’) Manish Arora and Hemant (from the ‘other’ fashion week were present to support their peers.

As ever, FDCI President was seen flitting from one end to the other, in between telling us again and again that there were a ‘lot of buyers around.’ He even had a little argument over it with Hemant. Ah, the colors of fashion.
